Kepstan® PEKK is a high-performance thermoplastic resin based on the highly stable PolyEtherKetoneKetone (PEKK) chemical structure.
As a member of the PAEK family, this semi-crystalline polymer is characterized by its mechanical strength, chemical resistance, and thermal stability—even under the most demanding conditions.
The main properties of PEKK coating are:
- Very good chemical resistance: tolerates acids, bases, hydrocarbons, salts, vapours and organic solvents
- Thermal performance: continuous use temperature up to 260°C
- Excellent mechanical properties: creep, scratch and compression resistance
- Tribological performance: good sliding properties with a smooth, uniform surface
- Exceptional abrasion and wear resistance: hard, durable coating
- Good electrical insulation: stable dielectric properties over a wide range of temperatures and humidity levels
These secondary properties reinforce the versatility of PEKK in specific or demanding environments:
- Resistance to UV rays, gamma radiation and X-ray transparency
- Low flammability: complies with aeronautical standards (FAR 25.853)
- Low outgassing and water absorption: suitable for humid environments.
The standard thickness of a Kepstan® PEKK coating is generally between 100µm and 150µm. Depending on requirements, a thickness of up to 300µm can be applied.
Examples of applications
- Electroplating: racks, anodes
- Chemistry: parts in contact with corrosive fluids
- Electronics: insulators, high-temperature connectors
- Aeronautics: structural components, sheaths, connectors
- Space: parts subject to extreme thermal and mechanical stresses
- Automotive: components close to the engine or exhaust system
